Designers urge contemporaries not to rely on someone else's taste and create interiors on their own: paint walls, invent furniture. The most creative even offer to do everything with their own hands, even ceramic tiles for decoration and decor.
It is necessary
- - clay;
- - mold or cutter;
- - kiln for roasting;
- - glaze.
Instructions
Step 1
The basis for making tiles is clay, and it is composed of hydrogen, oxygen, aluminum and silicone. If you add water to the clay, then it will change its structure, become more viscous and flexible. It is important to know one peculiarity of clay: freshly dug out of the ground, it is not suitable for making tiles.
Step 2
And use wet clay as a raw material, but first it should lie for a while in a bag. After that, you can start forming the product. Use a cutter to keep the shape and edges of the piece straight. During this process, the tile will dry out slowly, and at the final stage of molding it will practically harden at all. This stage of work is called the hard skin stage.
Step 3
When the tile is completely dry, its color will be slightly lighter than the original. This is the so-called raw stage. At this stage, your product is already quite hard, but if you hit the tile lightly with something, it will easily crumble or crack. Note that at this stage you still have a chance to change your product in the event that you do not like it for any reason. To do this, it is enough to place an unsuccessful sample in a bucket, where there are still remains of clay, and just forget about it for a while. This lump of clay can be reused later.
Step 4
The next stage in the manufacture of ceramic tiles is their firing. But for this you need to wait until the moisture has completely evaporated from the clay.
Step 5
Now the tiles can be placed in the oven. In general practice, there are two types of firing. The first, the so-called biscuit, when the temperature in the oven reaches a minimum of 850 ° C, and a maximum of 1000 ° C. This is necessary so that the tile remains porous and can easily absorb the glaze.
Step 6
The second stage is glaze firing. In this case, the temperature regime should be lower than it was necessary at the previous stage, otherwise the glaze will simply turn into glassy balls. That's actually the whole technology for making ceramic tiles at home. It is not at all difficult to do this, and if you also apply a little imagination to this process, then your ceramic tiles will acquire the status of an exclusive product.
