Making ceramics is one of the most exciting hobbies that require great dedication and creativity from a person. Making ceramic dishes with your own hands without special devices and a stove is not only possible and very exciting.
It is necessary
- - clay;
- - Potter's wheel;
- - plaster mold;
- - water;
- - kiln for roasting;
- - acrylic paints or special glaze.
Instructions
Step 1
Find the right clay. It is best to buy it in a store, in which case you will be sure of success. However, if you do not have such an opportunity, just dig it up in your next career. Remember it in your hands, try to mold a ring, a ball - if it works, then the clay is of good quality.
Step 2
Pour the dried clay with water, stir after a few hours until the consistency of sour cream. Strain and leave to settle. The water will remain on the surface - drain it, and knead the clay like dough. The result should be a plasticine-like material that does not stick to your hands.
Step 3
If you have a potter's wheel, make dishes with it - this is the most convenient option. To make several identical objects, for example a tea set, you must first make a plaster mold - you will press a piece of clay into it, and after drying, gently remove it.
Step 4
Try to sculpt a simple product, such as a mug, by hand. Roll the clay into a tight, smooth ball. Press your finger inward and twist the workpiece on it, you get a kind of mug. Then work with your fingers - thin the walls, raise them higher until the product takes the desired shape. Be sure to cover all cracks and holes. If necessary, wet the product and hands with water.
Step 5
When the dishes are ready, decorate them - apply patterns with scratches with a fork, stick curls from clay or a handle. In order to stick the elements, use clay diluted with water to a glue state.
Step 6
It is best to fire earthenware in a muffle furnace, at a temperature of at least 600 ° C. If you do not have such a stove, use an ordinary rustic stove or, in extreme cases, a fire. Place your piece carefully in the hottest area and build a fire.
Step 7
Try to protect the cup as much as possible from possible damage by wood or firewood and at the same time position it in the field of view. As soon as it heats up to a bright orange color, you can stop firing.
Step 8
After complete cooling, remove the product and test by pouring water into it. If water does ooze, grease the cup and smoke it over the flame, then wash it well and wipe it down.
Step 9
Paint the dishes with acrylic paints or special glaze. Pay attention to the instructions for the glaze - some types require additional firing.
