How to make a ceramic pot

It is necessary

  • - clay;
  • - Potter's wheel;
  • - water;
  • - sunflower oil;
  • - kiln or fire;
  • - acrylic paints or glaze for ceramics;
  • - instruments.

Instructions

Step 1

Buy or find potting clay. You can buy clay from shops specializing in ceramics or from factories that produce pottery or bricks. Or go to the nearest quarry and dig up the clay there. Remember it in your hands, try to mold a lump - if it works, collect more clay.

Step 2

At home, mash the clay, break up the lumps and fill with water. Leave the material in water for a few hours, then drain and knead the remainder into a creamy dough. For more comfortable work, you can add one spoonful of sunflower oil to the clay.

Step 3

Start sculpting the pot to the size you want. If you have a potter's wheel, you will be able to make the pot more symmetrical and even. The potter's wheel can be made independently, it is based on a ball-bearing mechanism and a flat surface.

Step 4

If you don't have a potter's wheel, try making a flower pot without one. Take a piece of clay and mold a ball about 10 cm in diameter. Make a hole in the center and rotate the circle with a few fingers. Then put the resulting workpiece on the table and gradually make the walls thinner and higher until you get the desired shape and size.

Step 5

Be sure to cover all cracks and holes with liquid clay, otherwise the pot will crack during firing. As soon as the clay begins to dry out, slightly moisten it with water, hands can also be moistened.

Step 6

When the whole pot is ready, come up with decorative elements to make the product unique and unique. You can sculpt flowers or fruits out of clay, sculpt a long sausage and stick it in a wavy line, make a small bird and "plant" it on the edge of the pot, scratch the patterns with a fork or a sharp object - it all depends on your imagination. Also, don't forget the hole in the bottom if you need a pot for planting flowers.

Step 7

The finished pot must be burned. If it is not possible to use a special kiln for roasting, find an ordinary Russian stove, set the pot in the back and light a fire. Be careful not to damage the product with wood or coals. As a last resort, you can make an ordinary fire and burn the product in it.

Step 8

It is necessary to place the product in the oven before starting the fire. Only when it will stand steadily, covered from damage (for example, with a metal mesh), cover it with wood and light a fire. Look - when the pot turns bright orange, you can stop firing. But you need to take out the product only when it has completely cooled down.

Step 9

Cover the finished pot with a special glaze for ceramics or paint with acrylic paints.
