Pockets are a very important and integral part of almost every outerwear model. And to make the pockets even more convenient and functional, you need to sew a zipper on them.
It is necessary
zipper, edging cloth, small strip of glue cloth, burlap, thread, scissors
Instructions
Step 1
First of all, determine where and how the lightning will be located. Mark the selected place with three lines: the central one, indicating its length, and two auxiliary ones, defining the beginning and end of the lightning. After that, without fail, glue the entrance to the pocket with a strip of glue cloth from the wrong side. This must be done so that, firstly, the corners of the lightning do not crumble during notching, and, secondly, to prevent stretching and deformation of the lightning (in other words, to give it a permanent shape).
Step 2
Now from the fabric, glued with an adhesive strip, cut a rectangular hem so that it is slightly larger than the zipper itself. Place the outside of it against the front of the pocket fabric and pin down. Then sew on the sewing machine the facing along the basting line, and the line can be laid both close to the zipper, and at some distance from it. It depends on the width of the zipper and your preference.
Step 3
If you did everything right, then you can start working on the entrance to your pocket. To do this, make cuts along the center line and in the corners on the sewn edging. Make sure that everything is smooth and neat, do not cut anything unnecessary, otherwise the work you have done will not be for the future.
Step 4
After that, turn out the facing and baste it, and make a small piping on the seamy side. Then iron the whole thing with a hot iron. To sharpen the edges of the piping, pin pins into the edges before ironing.
Step 5
Now you can take the lightning. Put it under the bottom, attach and sew. It is advisable to lay the line at a distance of 1 mm from the edge of the frame. So it will perform both a protective and finishing function with a zipper.
Step 6
If you wish, you can also make walls where the zipper will fall when you unfasten. To do this, you need a small piece of burlap, from which the wall will be cut in the form of a piping. Then you put the wall on the facing so that the seamy side is the first one out, and basting. After that, fasten both burlap piping with a straight stitch and overcast the cuts or sew them with an overlock stitch on the overlock.
