The badger is not an object of commercial hunting, since its skin and short fur are quite cheaply valued. But for some hunters, this animal is of interest, since badger fat is eaten. You can also eat meat.

Timing of hunting for a badger

The timing of hunting a badger is limited due to the long hibernation of this animal. For example, in the northern regions of Russia, the badger hibernates in October - November, and he sleeps until March - April.

The timing of the badger hunt depends on the region. Early hunting begins in the Moscow region, it is allowed from August 15 to November 30. At the same time, the badger hunting season opens in the Kaliningrad region, it also lasts from August 15 to November 30, and in the Primorsky Territory - from August 15 to November 10. In the Arkhangelsk Region and the Republic of Khakassia, badger hunting is allowed from September 1 to October 31. In the Kurgan region - from September 15 to October 20. In the Pskov region - from September 15 to November 1. And in the Novosibirsk region, hunting for a badger is prohibited.

In the farms of game users, as well as on the territory of the state reserve fund, the terms may be established by the administration of the farm or the territorial hunting administration.

Badger production quotas

In the Moscow region, permits for the production of badgers are issued taking into account the shooting of the permissible number of individuals in the hunting season. Production quotas may vary each year. For example, in the 2013-2014 season. on the basis of the Decree of the Governor of the Moscow Region, the total quota for the production of badgers is only 37 individuals.

In the Ivanovo region for the hunting season 2014-2015, the quota is 50 individuals. And only 30 of them can be obtained in public hunting grounds.

Forms of hunting licenses of the established form are issued by the Rosselkhoznadzor, as well as by its territorial departments.

Where do badgers live?

Most often badgers are found in forests and steppes, they also live in mountainous areas. The badger digs holes, and if it is impossible to dig a hole in the mountains, then it settles in the gorges. In the forest, the burrow can go under the roots of trees; in some places, the burrows of badgers reach a depth of five to ten meters. There is usually a body of water near the burrow.

Badger hunting is most effective with trained dogs, usually dachshunds or terriers. These dogs easily crawl into the hole, trying to drive the badger out of there. And if the animal crawls out of its hole, it immediately becomes the prey of the hunter.
