How to make paraffin candles

It is necessary

  • - paraffin (old candles or bought as a piece);
  • - thick cotton thread for the wick, small weight (nut);
  • - dyes, essential oils;
  • - metal thin-walled dishes for melting;
  • - forms (for example, a children's set for a sandbox).

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the paraffin wax. If you are using old (or ugly purchased) candles as your base material, place them in hot water. Cut them, pull out the wick, place in a metal dish, melt the paraffin wax in a water bath. If you purchased a block of paraffin wax from a specialty store, cut it into pieces and place it in a melting pot as well. Stir, do not heat over an open fire, otherwise the paraffin will turn black.

Step 2

Make a candle mold. Lubricate its walls with liquid soap. Tie a weight to one end of the wick and place it in the center of the mold. Wrap the other end around the pencil, placed on the edges of the mold so that the wick thread is vertically centered. For greater rigidity, pre-saturate the thread with liquid paraffin.

Step 3

Add dry dye (available at home soap stores) or wax crayons to the molten paraffin. Pour in essential oil or fragrance. Pour the paraffin into the prepared form in a thin stream. As it cools, a small indentation will form in the center of the mold, so leave a small amount of paraffin to make the surface even.

Step 4

Leave the candle at room temperature until dry. Do not try to cool it sharply, otherwise it will crack. Pull the end of the wick around the pencil. If you can't remove the candle, place the mold in a container of warm water. Remove excess thread.

Step 5

Use a variety of dyes to make striped candles. Fill layer by layer, after allowing the previous one to cool. Also use various decorative elements. For example, line the walls of the mold with coffee beans and fill it with light paraffin, in a liquid state it is very fluid and will completely fill the space between the beans.
