The seaside has always been a favorite theme for artists' paintings. There are drawings of inaccessible rocky shores, sandy beaches and ice fjords. The shore and the wave are inseparable, but there is a third component that sets the tone and mood for the whole picture - this is the sky. It can be transparent and sunlit, low and filled with dark clouds. Try to accurately capture the mood of the elements when creating a drawing of the coast.

It is necessary

  • - special paper for oil painting;
  • - set of brushes;
  • - palette;
  • - Oil paint.

Instructions

Step 1

There is a special paper for oil painting, it does not absorb paint and is very similar in texture to canvas. It is collected in handy albums that you can take on the road. Draw a horizon line that separates the sea and sky. It will be partially hidden by the oncoming wave.

Step 2

Start painting the sky by mixing cobalt blue, Prussian blue and white. Make a smooth transition from a dark color at the top of the sheet to a lighter tone at the horizon. This is due to the principle of aerial perspective, the further the object is from the viewer, the more air separates them. Therefore, distant objects turn out to be shaded with a light haze.

Step 3

Liven up the sky with light transparent clouds. Apply the white in several places with circular strokes. At first, you can work with a hard brush, and a soft flat synthetic one will help to smooth the image. Draw a sandy strip of the shore with a mixture of ocher and white. A little further, depict a hillock, mixing a little yellow cadmium into the paint.

Step 4

To keep the shore alive, make several shades of paint and work with them, looking at nature or a photograph. To draw a mountain, you will need Mars Brown, Ocher, and Grass Green. But look at the setting, do not limit yourself to these shades. Draw the vegetation on the slopes with pokes with a thin brush, kolinsky or round synthetic.

Step 5

Move on to the coastline of the sea and the surf. Mark the outlines of the oncoming wave with blue paint, do not touch the foam comb. Show the alternating light and dark areas of the water, its depth and large mass. Consider the direction of movement of the waves, their amplitude, put strokes according to these factors.

Step 6

Take white, ultramarine, and different shades of green. Do not forget about the reflection of the shore in the water, apply spots of brown and ocher at the bottom of the wave, to the side of it. Start writing out the dark bottom of the wave. For a color that is close to real, mix viridone green and ultramarine. Make a smooth transition to the top by adding some white.

Step 7

Apply strokes in the direction of movement of the body of water. Smooth out irregularities with a flat synthetic brush, very light touches, so that there is a feeling of transparency of the water. Start writing the foamy crest of the surf wave from the upper contour with the tip of the brush with whitewash. Use a stiff brush to spray in different directions.

Step 8

Draw the foam by tapping the tool with paint on the paper, you need to have a sense of relief. White will partially mix with the lower layer of paint, but this will only give a natural look to the picture.

Step 9

Move away from the drawing a little to notice inaccuracies and to finalize controversial areas.
