Despite the fact that most people no longer imagine life without electricity, you still need to have a supply of candles in the house, just in case. Candles are very different - they are made from wax and paraffin, but you can cook them according to an old recipe from lard. These candles are not decorative, they are for lighting purposes only.
It is necessary
- - Lard animal;
- - Board 40-50 cm long;
- - Cotton thread;
- - Sharp knife;
- - Pan 50 cm high;
- - Stove, stove or stove stove.
Instructions
Step 1
Melt the fat. To do this, put it in a saucepan and heat it over high heat. The pan will be aluminum or enameled, in this case it doesn't matter. Heat the bacon until it is runny and clear.
Step 2
Make 15-20 wicks with a thread, about 40 cm long. Fasten them in a row on the board. They can be tied to a board or nailed down. Arrange the wicks in 2-3 rows so that the distances between them are greater than the diameter of the potential candle.
Step 3
Dip the wicks in hot melted bacon and let them soak well. After that, lift the frame with the wicks out of the pan and let the remaining bacon drain out. The lard in the pan should begin to cool gradually at this time.
Step 4
As the bacon cools, dip the wicks on the frame as many times as needed to make the candles thick enough. When you dip the wicks into the cooling lard, it will stick to the wick. As it cools, the fat sticks more and more. After the candles of the required thickness are obtained, cool the candle blanks to room temperature. Remove them from the frame and cut them with a sharp knife at the top and bottom.
Step 5
The candles should be ripe. After packing them in cardboard boxes, leave them in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks. As the candles mature, they turn white and burn better the longer they ripen. When storing tallow candles, make sure that they are protected from possible entry of rodents.
