Step 1
Bobbin lace making originated in Europe in the 15th century. This handicraft came to Russia in the 17th century and since then has spread to many areas. The most famous is Vologda lace. The airy patterns of lace products fascinate and surprise.

It is hardly possible to quickly learn to weave real lace. But if you fall in love with this business and do it regularly, then over time you will definitely be able to achieve some success. And first you need to learn how to handle bobbins, which literally fly in the hands of craftswomen.
Step 3
Wind 2-3 meters of thread on each bobbin. Since the bobbins are used in pairs, it is necessary to wind up in such a way that one end of the long thread is on one bobbin, the other end on the second bobbin. The thread on the bobbins must be fixed so that it does not unwind and at the same time is mobile.
Step 4
Place and secure on the roller a sheet of paper with a lace pattern - a splinter.
Step 5
Secure the threads with pins on a pin. As a result, several pairs of bobbins will be suspended.
Step 6
Further, the bobbins are moved and shifted in a certain order, and thus lace is formed. As the work progresses, the threads are fixed on the pin with pins.
Step 7
The whole variety of lace patterns consists of the alternation of four elements: a lash, a cloth, a net and a napkin. The whip resembles a string, it is woven with just two pairs of bobbins. The whip can be either straight or with loops on the sides. This is the simplest element of lace-making, usually beginner lace-makers master it first.

The next element is a canvas. This is a staggered weave of threads. The basic lace pattern is formed with the help of a linen cloth. There are several types of linen, depending on what is required for the lace pattern. The third element is the mesh. As the name suggests, this is a fairly transparent weave. And finally, the cover is a decorative element that can be round, square or triangular.

Lace-making requires from a person a lot of concentration at work, attention and, of course, perseverance. Perhaps not everything will work out right away, but learning to weave lace is quite real. It was not in vain that whole villages were engaged in lace-making in the 19th century. Now the craft is not on such a scale, but in some areas, such as, for example, in the Vologda region, lace continues to be woven. And it is in demand.
