A dress with an elastic band is ideal for a trip to the resort and visiting the beach. The absence of shoulder straps on such a dress will make your tan even, avoiding the formation of ugly white stripes on the skin of the shoulders and back.

It is necessary

  • - lightweight fabric;
  • - elastic tape;
  • - elastic thread;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - tailor's chalk.

Instructions

Step 1

Cut the front and back of the dress out of light flowing fabric. These can be rectangles or trapezoid, the height of which is equal to the desired length of the dress. Fold the two pieces right over and sew straight side seams.

Step 2

Sew elastic bands into the top of the dress. If you do not have a sewing machine, and you have to do it by hand, choose not too tight, soft-stretch elastic bands with a width of four to six millimeters, with an openwork pattern or straight. To keep the dress tighter on the body, select an elastic band that is tighter and wider than the rest for the topstitch.

Step 3

Using a piece of soap or tailor's chalk, mark the elastic lines on the dress. To do this, attach the dress to you and, standing in front of the mirror, mark the sewing levels of the elastic tape at the waist and chest. Then spread the dress on a flat, stable surface and use a ruler to draw horizontal straight lines at the front and back of the dress.

Step 4

Divide the elastic into pieces of the desired length. To correctly identify it, wrap yourself with elastic tape so that it is taut enough and at the same time does not dig into the body. Join each section into a ring and secure with stitches using a needle and thread.

Step 5

Make sure that the distance between the stitches is the same, then the dress will be gathered evenly on all sides. It is best to make equidistant marks on the elastic band with a pencil or pen, and then the same number of marks at the same distance from each other - around the circumference of the dress. When sewing in elastic, line up the marks on the elastic with the marks on the fabric.

Step 6

To sew elastic using a sewing machine, buy spool threads from the store. Wind them around the bobbin and thread the hook. Insert a regular thread into the machine from above. To make the elastic move freely, loosen the upper thread tension. Run straight or zigzag stitches along the marked lines.

Step 7

Fold the top and bottom of the dress to the inside and sew or zigzag the cuts.
