A simple and comfortable skirt is what you need for a carefree beach holiday. And if you make it from bright silk or chiffon, then, perhaps, such a skirt can be worn to a party. So how do you sew a do-it-yourself beach skirt?
It is necessary
- For a pattern:
- - a large sheet of paper;
- - pencil;
- - thread compasses;
- - scissors.
- For the skirt:
- - lightweight fabric;
- - threads to match the fabric;
- - sewing machine.
Instructions
Step 1
Sew a skirt for the beach from light fabrics: cambric, gauze, silk, chiffon or fine knitwear. The length of the product can be completely different from mini to floor length, but the beach skirt must be easily removed and put on, besides, it should not be hot in it, and it should not hinder the movement of its owner.
Step 2
Make a life-size pattern for the skirt. To do this, draw a rectangle on a large sheet of thick paper, for example, a Whatman paper. Using a thread compass at the right corner, draw a line with a radius of twenty centimeters and from the same point draw a second line with a radius equal to the desired length of the skirt.
Step 3
Fold the fabric in half with the right side inward. Cut out two folded panels (leave a seam allowance of 1.5 cm), a bias tape for edging the top edge of a skirt approximately 115 cm long and 5 cm wide, including allowances, and 2 pieces of drawstring ties, 150 cm each, including allowances.
Step 4
Mark four folds along the upper cuts of the skirt parts and stitch them 5 centimeters from the top. Fold the folds to the midline, press and sweep over the top to make it easier to work with the fabric.
Step 5
Stitch the side cuts. Overcast seam allowances with an overstitch or zigzag stitch. Iron them.
Step 6
Finish the top edge of the skirt. Fold bias tape in half lengthwise, right side out, and press. Pin the inlay folded in half to the upper edge of the skirt so that its fold lies on the part at a distance of 1-2 centimeters. Sew on the sewing machine. Cut the seam allowances close to the stitching. Unscrew it to the wrong side, iron and stitch the top edge for the drawstring one centimeter apart.
Step 7
Sew drawstring ties. Fold over the wrong sides. Sew longitudinal cuts with a large zigzag stitch. Using a safety pin, thread the string into the drawstring, at its ends tie knots.
Step 8
Try on the skirt and adjust the length of the garment. It is best to do this from the floor, so it is advisable to perform this operation together. Fold the bottom of the skirt twice, sweep, iron and sew on a sewing machine. The skirt is ready, you can go to the beach.
