A flaskolette is a soft, airy sound that can only be produced on a stringed instrument. For example, the guitar. Mastering the techniques of extracting harmonics will help every guitarist to significantly expand his performing potential and decorate any song with beautiful overtone sounds.
It is necessary
- guitar
- many hours of practice
Instructions
Step 1
Take a guitar, find the twelfth fret (this fret is usually marked with two white dots). You can find it by simply counting the twelfth fret from the first fret. Very lightly touch the string above the metal fret board, which is closer to the body of the guitar. Just don't pinch the string with your finger, just touch it. Pull the string with your right hand. And immediately remove your left hand. The sound you hear is called an open harmonic. It is an octave higher than the root note (played at the twelfth fret) - this is the first type of harmonic. Also try to hit the harmonic at the 7th and 5th frets. You will notice that they will sound a little more muffled than on the twelfth. But they can also be used during the game as a means of sound expression.
Step 2
Practice extracting the second type of harmonics - artificial. They differ from the first type in that they are taken on the "clamped" strings with the help of a pick. You can retrieve them at the same frets as open ones. Please note that the difference is only in the way of sound production, but not in the sound itself. If you train every day, at least for a few minutes, you can quickly master the technique of an artificial harmonic. Despite the fact that this technique is considered to be more complex than the technique of extracting an open harmonic.
The most common use of the artificial harmonic technique is among musicians playing electric guitars. Because the rather quiet sound of an artificial harmonic, taken, for example, at the 5th fret, is easy to make louder with the help of special sound amplifying equipment or a pick.
Step 3
Master complex harmonics. This is a combination of the accompaniment played by the guitarist with his right hand and the simultaneous extraction of harmonics. These techniques can be used when performing songs. Take a song that you have mastered well and add some harmonics to its sound. Of course, you need to take a song that matches the mood of the harmonics. So take a slow song first.
