Garfield is one of the most popular cats in the world. It appeared thanks to the work of Jim Davis, the famous comic book creator. Despite the fact that Garfield is lazy and cynical, he is adored by children and adults. From a drawing point of view, this character is simple. He is easily recognizable even with a minimal set of features.

It is necessary

  • Paper,
  • paints,
  • pencil,
  • eraser.

Instructions

Step 1

Start drawing Garfield by sketching two large ovals that touch each other. The top oval should be slightly larger. From the bottom oval, which corresponds to the body, draw four slightly oblique lines. These are Garfield's legs. End each leg with a large foot. The length of the foot should be slightly less than the size of the character's torso. The toes of the feet are turned outward. Draw the outlines of the tail that extends from the lower left edge of the body.

Step 2

Draw two oval eyes. The nearest oval should slightly overlap the far one. Draw a semicircular nose at the bottom point of the eyes. From the middle of the bottom line of the nose, draw two arcuate lines in different directions. They should end at the level of the conditional line dividing the eyes in half. Thanks to these lines, Garfield will have a happy smile. End each line with a rounded checkmark. Add a small semicircle around the checkboxes.

Step 3

Garfield has a bored expression most of the time. To depict this, divide the eyes slightly below the middle with a horizontal line. Draw two black semicircles in each eye. If you want to show the cat with a happy face, erase the black semicircles and move the line to the middle of the eyes. Make it arched. For a sly and malicious look, it is enough to return the semicircles of the pupils and change the direction of the eyelid line. Draw this line in the form of a check mark, the tip of which faces the character's nose.

Step 4

The next stage is Garfield's ears. They extend from the top of the character's eyes. Their height is half an eye. Don't make your ears too rounded. They are actually quite sharp. After drawing the auricle, draw in the back of the ear. Then erase the top line of the head, which is covered by the ears.

Step 5

Work the character's legs. Make the lines smooth and slightly curved. Draw three rounded toes on the front halves of the feet. Note that the character is standing half sideways. Therefore, the near foot slightly overlaps the far one.

Step 6

Draw the front legs crossed on the chest. Since Garfield's body is slightly turned around, the viewer can only see the toes of his left paw. Draw three rounded fingers that overlap slightly.

Step 7

Add shadows to make the character look more realistic. Draw a black outline under each paw, partially following the outlines of the foot. Also add a small shadow to the top of the tail and far leg.

Step 8

Garfield's cat has a striped coat. Draw three rows of stripes on the side and tail, and about seven rows on the head. Each row includes three stripes that gradually decrease. The smallest stripes should be closer to the center of the character. Draw some black spikes on the tail and ears. Add three hairs to the outside of each ear.

Step 9

Color in the drawing. Garfield's nose has a slightly pink tint. Paint the area between the lower line of the eyes and the upper lips with yellow. Make the rest of the body red, except for the eyes of the character.
