Curtains allow not only to make the room more beautiful and more comfortable, but also to protect it from prying eyes. A properly cut and neatly sewn curtain will decorate your home. It is equally important and tasteful to choose the fabric for the curtain - so that it is in harmony with the environment.
It is necessary
- - roulette;
- - tailor's centimeter;
- - a piece of chalk;
- - ruler;
- - paper for patterns.
Instructions
Step 1
Before making a curtain pattern, you need to decide exactly what curtains you would like to see on your window. The patterns differ depending on the type of curtain.
Step 2
Take a tape measure or tailor's tape and measure your window that you would like to open the curtains to. You need to make careful measurements of the height and width of the curtain. You decide for yourself whether you will sew curtains from floor to ceiling or make them short, what area of the wall around the window you would like to close with a curtain, whether your curtain will have a lambrequin. The minimum width of the curtains is equal to the width of the curtain rod. If you want the curtains to lay in waves, add an additional 1/3 or 1/2 of the curtain rod width per fold.
Step 3
If the curtains have the correct geometric shape, they can be cut directly on the fabric - by measuring the length and width and outlining the lines with the help of tailor's chalk. If you are going to sew curtains with rounded corners, with a curly cut, then the pattern for such curtains is done first on paper. You can cut out only the most complex elements of the curtain from paper, measuring the rest with a ruler directly on the fabric.
Step 4
After you have measured the length and width you want and drawn lines on the fabric, measure the seam allowances with a ruler and draw lines. The allowance for the lower part is 10 cm, for the fold of the side and upper parts - 2 cm each.
Step 5
If you are going to cut a lambrequin, first calculate its width. For a lambrequin consisting of one section, the width will be equal to the length of the cornice. The width of the lambrequin of two sections, each of which overlaps the other by 1/3, calculate the width as follows: each section is 3/3, that is, two sections are only 6/3. Subtract 1/3 from them, by which one section overlaps the other - you get 5/3. Measure the length of the curtain rod, divide it by 5 and you get 1/3 the width of the section. Multiply this value again by 3. The result is the width of one lambrequin section.
