Date palms and Washingtonia grow and develop well at home. Of course, you can buy a plant in a flower shop, but very often, grown in greenhouse conditions, they begin to ache and wither when they are brought home. There is a great way to propagate a palm tree - to grow it from a bone. A plant planted in this way adapts best to indoor conditions.

It is necessary

  • - palm seeds;
  • - epin;
  • - water at room temperature;
  • - nutritious soil mixture;
  • - a small pot;
  • - plastic bag, lutrasil or glass.

Instructions

Step 1

The seeds of the plant can be purchased at a specialty store; usually there are 2-4 seeds in a bag. The seed coat is quite strong, so they need to be scarified. File it down a little with a nail file or file, but don't overdo it. This must be done very carefully so as not to damage the seed.

Step 2

Put the seeds in the epin solution for a couple of hours, and then soak them for a day in water at room temperature (some amateur flower growers soak palm seeds in milk, believing that they will germinate faster). You can experiment with your future plants. Soak half of the seeds in water, and the other half in milk.

Step 3

Prepare a nutrient medium. Take turf, leafy soil, humus and sand in a ratio (2: 1: 1: 1/5) or use ready-made palm soil. Fill the cups with earth (it is better to use opaque ones, as the light affects the roots unfavorably). Moisten the substrate and plant the soaked bones vertically in it.

Step 4

Palms are thermophilic plants, so they thrive in a humid and warm environment. Set up a mini greenhouse. Put a plastic bag on the pot with planted bones, cover with lutrasil or glass and place it next to the heating radiator. Now you should be patient, since the first shoots will appear in a month or six months.

Step 5

Ventilate the seed pots periodically, remove condensation from the film or glass. Moisten the soil surface.

Step 6

One month after the seedlings appear, transplant the seedlings to a permanent place. Caring for small plants consists in regular watering, spraying. Twice a month, feed the palm tree with a solution of special fertilizers, which can be purchased at any flower shop, and in 2-3 years your apartment will be decorated with a wonderful ornamental plant.
