Wood is an easy-to-process material, so many different things, both decorative and functional, can be made from it. With their own hands they make not only cabinet, but also exclusive carved furniture.
Kitchen utensils made of wood
The simplest, but essential in the kitchen, object made of wood is a cutting board. It is enough to take a canvas with a thickness of 1-1.5 cm, process it with sandpaper and drill a hole in the upper part. However, a cutting board can be much more elegant and beautiful if it is decorated with carvings or various patterns burned out on it.
A wooden spatula for mixing food is also a fairly simple item that you can do yourself. More complex items: cups, spoons, mugs. Their manufacture will require a special woodworking tool.
Interior items made of wood
A lamp, sconce or floor lamp, the lampshade of which is made of wood, will give the interior a special comfort. A powerful light bulb cannot be installed in such lighting fixtures, since the wood from it can begin to smolder and subsequently ignite.
To make a lampshade, you will need thin boards 5-7 cm wide and steel wire. Each piece of wood must be made in the shape of a triangle with a truncated top. Holes are drilled in the corners, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the section of the wire. Boards can be decorated with a burner. The assembly of the lampshade is simple: a wire is threaded through the holes and twisted into a ring.
For those who have a rich imagination, making wood crafts in the form of figures of animals and birds will be especially pleased. You can make models of various ships and sailing ships, panels, carvings. Knowing how to work with wood, you can delight your family with beautiful boxes, frames for mirrors, shelves.
Wood products for the garden and vegetable garden
The master will not be bored if he decided to decorate his personal plot beautifully. You will need to make benches, a table, a gazebo. Since the wood will be exposed to rainfall, wind and frost, it must be treated with special protective compounds. If the family has children, a swing, a sports corner, a sandpit can be made of wood. The entrance group can be decorated with carved railings, a beautiful cornice, a graceful canopy over the porch.
One of the simplest designs is a birdhouse. To make it, you will need well-planed boards measuring 20/30 cm and 15/30 cm. If you make a house for birds of a larger volume, it will be cold in it in winter. For the roof and floor, boards of a different size are needed. It is important to consider that the birdhouse will be more convenient if both of these parts protrude 5-7 cm beyond the facade. In one of the wide walls, you need to cut a hole with a diameter of 8-10 cm. If you plan to attract other birds to the birdhouse, the size of the hole is chosen in accordance with the size of their body.
First, the body of the house is assembled. Planks are connected using frost and moisture resistant, environmentally friendly glue (for example, PVA). Metal corners can also be used as a connecting element. When the body is ready, it is placed on a rounded board, its contour is drawn with a simple pencil, 5-7 cm is added from the side of the facade and the detail is cut out. Then a similar one is made. One of them will serve as a roof, the second - as a birdhouse floor.
The final stage is the installation of the taphole. This is the name for a solid wooden crossbar, reinforced under the inlet. It will be much easier for birds to stay on the taphole if it is rounded. The bird house is ready and can be placed on any of the trees you like.
