Sewing a carpet with your own hands is not at all difficult. To make it, you need pieces of woolen fabric, which you can easily cut from an unnecessary one, for example, a woolen blanket. And to make the carpet bright and juicy, use patches of different colors in your work. An interesting combination is obtained when using black and white colors interspersed with gray, red, cream tones. But the main thing in this business is imagination!
It is necessary
- - a fabric made of wool, from which you will cut the shreds of the size you need;
- - thread to match the fabric (preferably cotton);
- - safety pin;
- - the fabric that will serve as a lining for the carpet.
Instructions
Step 1
Cut the woolen fabric you have prepared into strips, the width of which should be approximately 6 cm. If you plan to sew a small carpet measuring 75x45, then you will need strips about 120 cm long. If the fabric is shorter than the required length, you will have to sew several strips.
Step 2
Take two strips of the same fabric, put them to each other at a 90-degree angle and sew them together (using a sewing machine, or by hand) at a 45-degree angle. The fabric at the seam must be cut off, leaving the "tail" no more than 0.5 cm.
Step 3
So, all the stripes are ready, you can start weaving our carpet. To do this, using a pin, you need to fix the ends of three strips together at the level where the weaving will be convenient for you, weave a pigtail, and fasten the ends with a pin so that it does not unravel. Braid 11 braids using contrasting fabric.
Step 4
Place the finished braids in a row so that the color combination is the best for the rug.
Step 5
Next to each other, we put two pigtails on a flat surface and equalize their ends, sew, making a stitch, alternately passing one pigtail over the edge, then the other, while retreating approximately 9 cm from the edge of the product. You do not need to tighten the thread too much, and also make sure that the stitches on the right side are not visible. The end of the seam must be secured by making a few additional stitches, stepping back 9 centimeters from the edge. Thus, you sew all the prepared pigtails.
Step 6
Take a red woolen fabric, cut it into strips and sew so that the three widths of our rug are equal to the length of one strip of fabric. The strip should look like a tube. To do this, sew its long edges.
Step 7
Pass a tube of red fabric across the braids in a checkerboard pattern and secure it to the opposite end of the rug with a few stitches. Do not overtighten. Then go back, again intertwining the braids with a tube.
Step 8
Straighten the ends of the braids. Finally, secure the end of the red cloth tube. Cut off the unnecessary tip, and tuck the rest under the edge of the product. Treat the opposite edge of the carpet in the same way.
Step 9
It is necessary to sew the lining to the wrong side of the rug. To do this, put the carpet upside down, fix the lining fabric with pins, and fold the edges by 2-2.5 cm. Check if the lining is not "peeking out" beyond the edges of the carpet. And, if everything is normal, sew the lining perpendicular to the braids. When sewing, alternate the small outside stitches with the long inside stitches. The lining fabric should be stitched throughout the garment. Your carpet is ready!
