Step 1
Carpets come in different shapes and colors: square, round, oval, plain, patterned, etc. Before embarking on the image of this piece of furniture, it is worth considering its purpose properly. If you plan to fit a painted carpet into your interior design, consider the particulars of the room and the overall style of decoration.
Step 2
Choose the shape of the future carpet. Square and rectangular coverings are traditionally more popular, however, rounded carpets are more suitable for decorating a nursery or a boudoir. It will be easier for novice designers to hone their skills on the angular shapes of carpets.
Step 3
Be sure to create a sketch. With a simple pencil, draw the outline of the carpet, mark along the edges a decorative trim with brushes (if it is planned). After that, start drawing the ornament. Move from the center to the edges, making sure that all rows are in harmony with each other in pattern and proportion.
Step 4
Most often, the ornament on carpets includes natural elements (flowers, leaves) and geometric shapes (rhombuses, circles, squares, etc.)
The main difficulty of drawing in the ornament technique is the need to ensure that the elements of each group are strictly symmetrical and identical.
Especially complex elements of the pattern, you can pre-practice to draw separately. It is most convenient to do this on a piece of paper in a cage - this way the hand will quickly get used to automatically following the size of the fragments.
Step 5
After the outline sketch of the carpet is ready, you can begin to paint it carefully. Watercolors will help to make the image especially delicate and light.
To draw small elements, take thin brushes so that the paint does not go beyond the edges of the drawn ornament.
There are no strict requirements for the color scheme of a painted carpet, so you can focus on the overall design of the room.
Step 6
If you are just painting a picture on which there is a carpet, do not forget about the laws of light and shade. Make sure that the color gradient matches the incidence of the light beam - the illuminated areas should appear lighter.
