Dance is movement, feelings, life itself. A photograph is a static picture. How to combine these opposites and convey all the dynamics and expression of the dance? Such photographs are considered one of the most difficult to perform, so it is necessary to take into account some of the nuances of shooting.
It is necessary
- - camera;
- - photo editing programs.
Instructions
Step 1
If possible, visit the dance dress rehearsal. So you can choose the most advantageous angles for photography, plan your movements around the room during work in advance and get an idea of what camera settings will be needed.
Step 2
Try to think over the general sequence of movements. This way you can focus on reflecting the most important, key points. If you can't come to rehearsal, find information about such dances and try to imagine how best to shoot. For example, European ballroom dancing is usually best shot from a corner of the hall. As a rule, couples will slow down the movement a little near the edge of the stage, and during this time the most successful shots can be taken.
Step 3
If you are shooting club or wedding dances, that is, mainly photographing people who have no modeling experience, it is better to put a slightly different emphasis. It is not the location of the shooting that matters, but the psychological readiness of the dancers. It is better to photograph those who are ready to pose. Quite comical shots are most often obtained "from around the corner". However, they are also often popular, so this method should not be completely discounted. Be sure to photograph those who decide to dance on any platform: stage, chair, table, etc. This kind of overview often produces very good pictures. And in any case, get ready for the fact that later on you will have to edit a lot - this is the specificity of this genre.
Step 4
Technical requirements for photography of dancing directly depend on the characteristics of the room. But very often problems arise due to the peculiarities of the lighting. It may be too weak, and the light sources are constantly changing, creating a special environment. In reality, of course, everything looks beautiful and only emphasizes the dynamics of the dance. But how do you explain this to photographic equipment? To minimize the possibility of problems, if possible, choose a camera with a sensitivity of at least 1600 ISO.
Step 5
And finally: try to take as many frames as possible. Photographing dances is very difficult, so there will be very few successful ones among the total number of shots. However, even a few shots that capture the quintessence of vitality and energy of movement are worth it!
