Orchid is a plant that most often requires special attention and care. Particularly careful plant care may be required in winter, when natural conditions for the comfortable state of orchids are not enough.
Phalaenopsis orchid has some features that will require an individual approach to its maintenance in winter. It belongs to the type of orchid for which a pronounced state of rest is not characteristic. This category of plants requires almost the same state of temperature, irrigation, and lighting throughout the year. Caring for other varieties of orchids during the winter may be slightly different.
Phalaenopsis needs to provide additional illumination in winter - the dim winter sun will not be enough for the plant, even if it is placed on a window on the sunny side. It can be illuminated using a fluorescent lamp. The air temperature should be organized at a stable level - not less than +12 degrees Celsius. Gently switch your orchid to a moderate watering regime. This means that the soil from the previous watering must completely dry out before you are going to "water" the plant again.
It is better to water in winter as follows. Immerse the pot with the orchid in a container filled with water and leave there for about half an hour. After that, remove the pot and let the excess water drain. Phalaenopsis should not be sprayed with water in winter. Maximum - you can use a sprayer to humidify the air around the flower. During this period, you should not feed the plant.
