The art of curtsey originated in medieval Europe, it was a very important part of court etiquette and the daily life of the nobility. Reverance - a polite bow - was customary to do when greeting an important person. It was a whole system of movements, almost a dance, it was performed by both men and women. Today, the squat bow is only done by women, often only on exceptional occasions, such as when greeting members of the royal family.
Instructions
Step 1
Make a half-bow with the whole body from the waist (this is how they express respect for a person of equal social status when they meet). With this bow, push your right leg forward a little, put your left hand behind your back, open your palm outward in the lumbar region. You can also join both hands behind your back, placing both hands on top of each other, palms facing outward.
Step 2
Bow to the official, as men did in the late 19th century: a few steps forward, step to the right (or left), move the other leg to the first and tilt your head to your chest, take a step back and, straightening your body, raise your head. For ladies, it is enough to slightly tilt their heads, but at the same time hold them bowed for 1-2 seconds, so as not to get a simple nod.
Step 3
Make a full, or earthly, bow (the depth of the bow expresses the degree of respect and gratitude to the person to whom it is addressed). With a deep bow, put your right leg half a step forward, join your hands behind your back at the lower back or in front, at the waist, keep your back straight all the time, take your left leg back half a step, while the body bends forward. Can you stop the bow at any "height" if your arms are folded behind your back, but if your arms are folded in front, you need to tilt your body until your crossed arms reach the bent knee of your right leg, with your left knee on the floor and your chest? or forehead - on crossed arms.
Step 4
Curtsey as was the custom in the 17th century. Remove your hat before curtsey (women do not need to do this). Take a step to the side, the left leg is slightly behind, the arms swing closer to the left side of the chest and spread out to the sides with a wide gesture, at the same time tilt the body and head.
Step 5
Curtsey: stand straight, right foot slightly in front, legs - one in front of the other (slightly crossed). Put your hands behind your back and bend your knees, keeping your body straight, while you can bow your head.
Step 6
Do the knixen: do the same movements as in the curtsy, accompanying them with a slight nod, and slightly bending your knees. The pace of execution of all movements is very fast. Girls and girls: keep your hands down, take the hem of your skirt and spread your arms slightly to the sides.
