You can knit the heel of a sock in different ways. Master short rows - they allow you to make a neat boomerang heel. To some, it will seem simpler than a traditional heel - it does not need to knit an instep wedge for the foot. Practice on the pattern and knit cozy socks for the whole family.

It is necessary

  • 4 spokes
  • Main woolen thread
  • Colored thread for marks
  • Extra cotton thread

Instructions

Step 1

Tie the top of the sock in circular rows and divide the loops into two equal parts. To knit a boomerang heel, start on the 1st and 4th working needles. Tie one front row and turn the work.

Step 2

Divide all the loops of this row into 3 equal parts. In order not to get confused, mark them with colored threads: sides and middle. For example, for a total of 60 stitches for knitting a sock. On knitting needles 1 and 4, you have 30; you split them by 10.

Step 3

Start knitting row 2 with purl stitch. His first loop will be double. For her, leave the thread before knitting and insert the knitting needle to the left into the first loop of the row. The thread should be on the working needle. Remove, without knitting, both the loop and the thread. Tighten the double loop so that there is no hole left. Tie purl loops and turn knitting over.

Step 4

Make another double stitch at the beginning of the third (front) row, pulling the thread tight again. Then tie all the loops, stopping at the last - double, previous row. It must remain on the spoke. Turn the work.

Step 5

Now knit the fourth, purl, row. Leave the last double stitch and turn over the knitting. Rows 3 and 4 are shortened, take them as a reference. Continue in this manner until you tie to the mid-heel. So, you have knitted all the sides of your knitting and 1 more loop from the center. In our case, there were 10 central loops, now there should be 8. And on the sides - 11 double. You have got a half "boomerang".

Step 6

Continue to knit in circular rows on all four knitting needles of the sock and make two circles. Knit double loops as one. Then start shortening the rows again. However, now your task is to expand the center part by knitting it. The shortened rows should run from the inside of the heel to the outside of the heel, that is, in the opposite direction.

Step 7

You need to act like this:

1 row - facial; the center of the heel is knitted; work turns;

2 row - purl (the first loop is double); turn;

3 row - double; front surface; double again. (Knit her and the next buttonhole with the front ones!). Turn.

4th row - double; seamy surface; double. (Knit her and the next loop with the purl!). Turn.

Step 8

Finish knitting the heel of the sock using the pattern of rows 3 and 4 until you have knitted all the double stitches and boomerang sides. The heel of the sock is ready! If you wish, you can do it with additional cotton thread, then it will last longer.
