Every self-respecting photographer's portfolio should include some “must-have” shots. Such as: a picture of the full moon and always "with craters", a picture of a city at night from some skyscraper, a few pictures where the photographer is experimenting with a long exposure and, of course, a picture of a candle flame.
It is necessary
- - camera;
- - candle;
- - a dark room;
Instructions
Step 1
Pick a background. Any dark fabric (black is best) works well as a background when shooting a bright candle flame. This will enhance the sense of contrast. Try using velvet, velor, or dark canvas so that you can see the texture of the fabric in the picture.
Step 2
Choose an original candlestick if you plan to make the candle in the frame "full length". Interesting candlestick options can be found at thrift stores or flea markets. Or perhaps you will be able to "dig up" something among the old grandmother's things or in the attic of your country house. The candlestick should be truly unique.
Step 3
Eliminate the possibility of additional light entering the frame. To do this, shoot in complete darkness. Close the windows with curtains. Disable LCD mode on the camera. Shoot using the viewfinder.
Step 4
Set the camera to manual settings. Open the aperture to its maximum value. Exposure, on the contrary, make it short if you want to remove the "frozen" flame. Set the minimum ISO value. If your goal is to get a "trail of fire", then, on the contrary, set a high value of exposure. Place the camera on a tripod for a clear shot.
Step 5
Watch the sharpness of the image. Do not rely on Photoshop, in which "then you can pull everything up." Good sharpness and contrast of the picture can be taken at the moment of the shooting itself with the help of competent use of manual settings. It's time to become a serious photographer.
Step 6
Experiment with light. You can take some pictures in a room that is not completely darkened. Add one light source. Try to include a few more objects in your still life (book, paper and pen, rose, etc.).
Take a portrait of a beautiful girl holding a candle. Feel free to experiment. It is better to always have several options, from which you can then choose the most successful one.
