Lemon fruits are very rich in vitamins, especially vitamin C. However, it is not at all necessary to buy these exotic fruits in the store or in the market. You can grow a lemon tree right at home. It will bear tasty and healthy fruits.
It is necessary
Fertile soil or river sand, water, a glass jar or a five-liter plastic bottle, a stalk of a healthy fruit-bearing lemon, crushed charcoal or special preparations for root formation
Instructions
Step 1
The best way to grow lemon is using a cuttings from a tree that is already bearing fruit. Cut the stalk 8-12 cm long. It should have 3-4 leaves. The stalk should be trimmed straight below the first bud. From above it must be cut obliquely, about 5 mm above the last kidney. You can soak the cuttings for a day in a special solution that stimulates the formation of roots. Similar drugs are sold in specialized stores. Another option is to sprinkle the bottom cut with crushed charcoal. It is advisable to take several cuttings at once: in case one dies.
Step 2
After that, stick the cutting into the wet sand. Some gardeners do not use sand for rooting, but fertile soil. So, according to a resident of the Kaluga region Valery Karmalyuk, it is best to take land for planting from the place where the nettle grows. This amateur gardener adds ash, river sand, peat and complex fertilizer to such soil. With this mixture, he fills the bottom of a cut five-liter water bottle. Holes must first be cut in the bottom for water drainage.
Step 3
After you have planted lemon cuttings, they must be watered with settled water at room temperature. Then the cuttings should be covered with a transparent glass jar. If you have planted the scions in the bottom half of a plastic container, you can cover them with the top half. The place of such an impromptu greenhouse is on the sunniest window. However, direct sunlight is contraindicated for cuttings. Cuttings should be regularly sprayed with settled water at room temperature.
Step 4
After about 3 weeks, roots and leaves can be expected to appear. However, before you can transplant your homemade lemon into a pot, you need to adapt it. To do this, the rooted lemon seedling is left without a top cover for 2-3 hours. Then the time increases to 3-4 hours. After 2 weeks, the shelter is removed, and the seedling is transplanted into a small pot. Do not bury a young tree too much.
