Before purchasing your first rabbits, be sure to prepare enough comfortable and spacious cages for them, set up in the open air in a dry and warm place.

Do not place the cages on regular soil - it will turn into dirt, which negatively affects the health and cleanliness of the rabbits. It is also more beneficial for the health of animals to install solid wire rather than wooden cages.
Step 3
Wire cages are versatile - easy to clean and disinfect, and can be installed outdoors or under a roof. If the wood frames are difficult to clean of absorbed dirt, then the wire cage can be easily cleaned with a brush and a gas burner. You will need a wire mesh with a mesh size of 2.5 x 5 cm. For the floor, take a mesh with mesh sizes of 3.5 x 2.5 cm.

Make the size of the future cage so that the rabbits you buy are comfortable and spacious there. The optimal size for a cage is a height of 45 cm, a length of 90 cm and a depth of 75 cm. If the depth of the cage is less, increase its length so that there is enough room in the cage for a rabbit with a brood of rabbits. Slightly smaller should be cages for male rabbits.

If your cages will be outdoors, in the open air, place them high enough above the ground to prevent small animals from crawling into the cage, such as snakes and rats.

You can build a quality rabbitry with your own hands by combining a wooden frame with a wire mesh.

For the wooden frame of the frame, take beams with a cross section of 5 by 10 cm. For the cage door, take beams 2, 5 by 5 cm in cross section.

The cages can be placed in a row, next to each other, and their number can be increased as new rabbits appear. Placing the cages in two rows will save space in the rabbitry.

Alternatively, you can immediately make one common cage with dividing walls inside, to get several isolated cages in one common frame behind the wire mesh.
