Decorations are superimposed on simple icons so that only the face and hands of the holy great martyrs are visible. These decorations are called salaries or vestments.

Step 1
It is customary to cover icon boards with frames, not only for decoration, but also for better preservation of the writing on them. After all, old Russian icons are exposed to the aggressive effects of the modern atmosphere, ultraviolet light, humidity, dust. Only specialist restorers have the right to remove the frames from famous icons.
Step 2
Previously, vestments were made of silver and gold, decorated with beads, pearls, and precious stones. Salaries were one of the types of applied arts and became an integral feature of the Russian church. In religion, shining vestments mean heavenly light emanating from the icon. Silver means the purity of clothes, and gold means God's grace. The images of the most significant icons are composed exclusively of precious stones and pearls. That is why salaries and vestments so often become the subject of desire for fraudsters and thieves.

Salaries are solid and typeset. Solid (obronny) vestments are chasing, with a convex pattern. Type-setting vestments consist of several parts fastened to each other.
Step 4
Icons of Christians and Catholics are made into salaries. You can make a beautiful setting for a home icon yourself from threads, beads, beads. Prepare a wooden frame that matches your icon. Pull the canvas over it, attach it with buttons to the side plates.
Step 5
Sketch the outline of the face and hands of your icon through tracing paper. Transfer the drawing to the canvas.
Step 6
Come up with a beautiful drawing of the salary design. Embroider it with brightly colored threads. The embroidery style depends on your desire. You can embroider with satin stitch, cross stitch or beads. Do not embroider in places where the face and hands of the icons will be visible. Decorate the crown of the robe with beads.

Carefully cut out the face and hands of the icon. Secure the edges of the canvas with PVA glue. Let the glue dry.
Step 8
Remove the trim from the frame, carefully put it on the icon, aligning all the cuts. Secure the flashing to the back of the icon with tapes or glue. Put or hang the icon with the frame in place.
