Fishing with a rubber band is one of the most effective ways to get a good catch. The rubber band works great on most freshwater fish: crucian carp, borer, roach, rudd and many others. Some predators are also caught on this tackle, in particular, a perch can peck well on a worm.

An elastic band is an excellent alternative to a float rod, spinning rod and many other common tackle. There is an opinion among fishermen that the gum is a truly Soviet invention, since there is no data on a foreign analogue of this tackle.

The benefits of gum

Fishing with a rubber band is very practical, since one casting of the tackle is enough for successful fishing. Due to the rubber part of this device, it is very simple and quick to put the bait on the hooks, moreover, the bait always lays down in the same place in the reservoir.

In addition, the elastic increases the fisherman's chances of a good bite, since it has several (most often five) hooks at once. To these advantages, you can add the simplicity of fishing, the ability to follow the bite in very windy weather and the low cost of the tackle.

Gum making

A rubber band can be purchased at any specialty store, but most fishermen prefer to make their own tackle. I must say that it is quite simple to mount the tackle.

Usually, a simple model airplane rubber band is used to mount this catchy fishing device, but if you wish, you can also purchase a special one. You should pay attention to the date of manufacture of the gum, since its strength depends on this indicator.

After a suitable elastic is purchased, a piece of strong nylon cord (about 20 cm) is attached to one edge of it through a swivel-carabiner system. The cord is tied to the sinker. It should be said right away that you can make the sinker yourself - it is enough to melt the lead over the fire, using an ordinary tablespoon as a container.

On the other hand, a fishing line is tied to the elastic - again through the same swivel-carabiner system. For one tackle, 10-15 m of elastic is enough, while the fishing line needs about 100 meters (just in case). The thickness of the main line must be at least 0.2 mm.

Leashes (length 10-15 cm) are attached to a fishing line tied to an elastic band, and hooks, in turn, are attached to them. Usually, 5-7 hooks are mounted on one tackle (No. 5 according to international numbering). The distance between the leashes should be at least 40-50 cm.

After all the above procedures, the tackle is wound on a homemade reel, which can be a 20x5 cm board with grooves for fishing line and elastic. For convenience, it is advisable to attach a pointed peg to the reel, which, when fishing, is pushed into the ground and thus fixes the tackle on the shore.
