A wide elastic band is usually used when sewing belts of skirts, shorts, family shorts and other products with an upper drawstring hem. When done carefully, the clothes are comfortable and practical. An ordinary thin elastic band loosens as it wears, and the thing has to be repaired regularly. The peculiarity of the wide tape is that it is firmly sewn into the hem of the top.

It is necessary

  • - wide elastic band;
  • - sewing machine;
  • - pins;
  • - needle;
  • - chalk (remnant);
  • - a thread;
  • - iron.

Instructions

Step 1

Try to sew family briefs or a two-piece skirt (top and back) with a wide elastic band. Consider a one-piece belt when building a pattern. Leave a hem for him in two widths of the tape with an allowance of 1.5 cm.

Step 2

Process all connecting seams of the main product, except for the hem for the future drawstring belt. Make the necessary calculations: wrap the elastic around the waist and add about 2 cm for the connecting seams.

Step 3

Sew the ends of the wide elastic, leaving small seams. Hand overlap the edges of the slices. Spread the seam allowances along the wrong side of the sewn tape and attach them to the top and bottom edges with a few small hand stitches.

Step 4

Divide the top hem of the garment into six to eight (depending on the waist and length of the elastic) equal sections. Mark the boundaries of the sections with tailor's chalk or remnants. Do the same with an elastic band.

Step 5

Hem about a centimeter in height along the top raw edge of the garment and press it to the wrong side. Then line up the marks on the elastic and hem.

Step 6

Secure a wide elastic band to the seamy side of the work with pins. In this case, the tape should lie with the upper edge exactly along the line of the folded edge of the fabric.

Step 7

Now you need to stitch the wide elastic to the waist with four special elastic stitches or (for a more secure hold) three-row stretch stitches.

Step 8

While working on the sewing machine, it is necessary to stretch the working section of the braid so that the same small assemblies are obtained on the finished drawstring belt.

Step 9

First, machine stitch along the bottom of the wide elastic, then remove the pins and turn the sewn tape inward with the fabric. The next line is laid close (about 2-2.5 mm) to the inner edge of the working blade. The rest of the stitches will run parallel to the top and bottom stitches.
