Curtains are no longer just given protection from drafts, bright sunlight and prying eyes. The curtains have become an intrinsic part of the interior. Moreover, it is often the curtains that play the main role in creating the interior. You can sew a simple curtain without lining yourself, it does not require much effort from you. You just need to carefully and accurately follow the instructions.

Instructions
Step 1
Choice of fabric
The curtain fabrics on sale are of two main types. Let's call them "longitudinal" and "transverse". "Longitudinal" curtain fabric is most often domestic production, the width of the canvas is 1.5 m. In this type of curtain fabric, the side edge will later be the side edge of the curtain, and the upper and lower edges are cut off in the store. "Cross" fabric is usually imported. Its width varies from 2.70 m to 3.00 m. The actual width of the "transverse" fabric is the height of your future curtain. In addition, a lightweight "cross" fabric such as organza or voile often has a weighting hem along one side. This is a dense cord sewn into the fabric at the factory. It is needed so that the curtain hangs beautifully during operation.
Step 2
Calculation of the amount of fabric.
The calculation of the width of the fabric for the future curtain is made based on the gathering factor of the curtain tape that you are going to use. When buying materials for a future curtain, choose a curtain tape that forms the folds you need. As a rule, samples of curtain tapes are presented in the store in a strapped state. See what the gathering factor of your chosen webbing is. For example, the ratio is 1: 2, 5. You plan to sew curtains with a width of 3 m. This means that the width of the panel you need will be 3 mx 2, 5 = 7.5 m. Add 15 cm for the side hemming seams. If you plan to use a "longitudinal" curtain fabric for sewing a wide curtain, you will have to sew a curtain from several panels, and add 2.5 cm for each seam.
The height of the curtain is determined by the distance from the place where the curtain will be hung to the floor plus 10 cm for the bottom hem and a width equal to the width of the curtain tape for the top hem. If the curtain fabric has a built-in weighting cord, there is no need to add a length addition to the bottom hem. "Longitudinal" fabric is cheaper than "transverse", but its consumption can be much higher. So for sewing one piece of fabric with a height of 2, 8 m and a width of 7.5 m (coefficient of curtain tape = 2.5) "longitudinal" fabric with a width of 1.5 m, you will need 7, 5/1, 5 = 5 fabrics in height. Plus 2 x 15 cm for the side cuts and 4 x 2.5 cm for stitching the canvases together = 40 cm. That is, you will have to take 6 canvases with a length of 2, 8 m. Add to this 10 cm for the hem of the bottom of each canvas and 2, 5 cm for the hem of the top edge. Thus, it turns out 6 x 2, 8 + 6 x 10 + 6 x 2, 5 = 17, 55 cm
You can simply buy “crosswise” fabric in the meter you need.
Step 3
Decatting.
Decatting is a forced wet processing and drying of fabric. Decatting must be done so that after the first wash your curtain does not shrink. To do this, simply soak a cloth in water and dry it. You can dry it with an iron or a dryer.
Step 4
Open it.
After decating, you can start cutting. If you dried the fabric after decating with an iron, you can start cutting right away, otherwise, iron the fabric. Then cut off the edges, they "pull" the fabric. If this is not done, the hemming seams will be uneven after processing. Take all measurements along the edge, apply notches with scissors in the right places. Use the pulled-out method to cut the fabric perfectly straight. Just pull one strand across the hem and cut along the resulting strip. Never cut based on the design of the fabric. It is possible to cut the curtains in height only after processing the side cuts and bottom hem on a sewing machine.
