The sounds denoted by the letters of the Latin alphabet, with a few exceptions, correspond to the sounds of the Russian language. For the letters "x", "h", "u", "w" there are no analogs in Latin, but special combinations of letters are used - digraphs.

Step 1
The letter "I" is written as a combination "ja", which has a similar sound. However, at the end of the names (Maria, Lydia, Valeria), such a replacement is optional. Instead of a digraph, as a rule, only the letter "a" is used: Maria, Lydia, Valeria. However, the rule is optional. Sometimes the letter “j” is replaced with “i” or “y”. The same letter replaces the sound "y" in the letters "e", "u", etc.
Step 2
There is no letter "x" as such in Latin either. Instead, the combination “ch” is written: Chloe, Charon, etc. This digraph was preserved in German, and in English and French it is replaced by the sounds "k", "h", "w". However, for simplicity, this digraph is replaced by the letter “h”.
Step 3
The letter "x" is read as a combination of sounds "ks". It occurs in Greek and Roman names and origins: Xenia, Alexandr. If you wish, you can replace this letter with the combination “ks”.
Step 4
The sound "sh" in Latin is absent even as a combination of sounds, but the analogue can be borrowed from English or German. These are “sh” and “sch” respectively. The sound "u" is only in German and is referred to as the combination "stsch". Sometimes the combination is simplified to “sch”.
Step 5
The letter "e" (as in the word "hedgehog") is replaced by either the combination "yo" or "e": "Fyodor" or "Fedor".
Step 6
The sound "ts" is written either with the Latin letter "c" or with a combination of "ts": Tsepochkin, Cepochkin. However, in the second case, the reading is not always obvious.
Step 7
The sound "zh" is recorded with a digraph created on the principle of the digraph for "sh" - "zh": "Zhenya".
