Small and large palm trees look very picturesque in our homes. Some of them are extremely picky, others are completely unpretentious and do not require daily attention and care. The latter includes the African date palm - a sprawling and beautiful tree that can be grown from a stone. You just need to follow a number of simple rules.

Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the ground. It should be nutritious and loose (it is better to buy ready-made soil for palm trees in a specialized store). Before planting the seeds, the soil should be slightly moistened and heated in a water bath to 27-30 ° C.

Step 2

Take a pit from a freshly harvested date. If properly planted, it will germinate within a month. But you can speed up the process by placing it in hot water (not boiling water!) And leaving it for a day. For even faster germination, the seed can be slightly filed or scratched, making sure that the actual seed under the shell is not damaged. The seeds from last year's harvest will also sprout, but 2-3 months later.

Step 3

Plant the seed in a small pot filled with warm earth, vertically to a depth of 1-1.5 cm. Cover with cellophane and place the pot on a windowsill (preferably on the south or east side).

Step 4

Water the pit every day, making sure that water flows freely through the bottom drain. Remove excess water in the sump. Observe daily abundant watering until the sprout appears.

Step 5

When your palm grows to 10 cm, transplant it into a large pot. It is not necessary to deepen the plant too much. The soil can be the same one bought in the store, or you can prepare it yourself by mixing humus with river sand. The main thing is not to damage the root when transplanting, otherwise all your previous efforts may go down the drain.
