Instructions

Step 1

Open the video in VirtualDub. Press Ctrl + O or select "File" and "Open video file …" items in the main menu. Next, in the dialog, go to the directory with the video file, select it in the list and click the "Open" button.

Step 2

Select the appropriate scale for displaying footage frames in the preview panes. It makes sense to do this in order to make it more convenient to navigate through the video later to precisely specify the boundaries of audio extraction.

Step 3

Set the starting point of the segment of the video from which you want to draw audio. At the bottom of the VirtualDub window is a slider for the current frame. Move it with the mouse, either using the cursor keys, or using the "Go" menu items, or using the navigation pad buttons to the desired position. The frame image will be displayed in the preview pane. Press the Home key or use the "Edit", "Set selection start" items of the main menu.

Step 4

Set the end point of the video segment from which the audio will be extracted. Follow the steps to move the slider similar to those described in the previous step. Press the End key or use the "Edit", "Set selection end" menu items.

Step 5

Activate full audio processing. Sequentially select the items "Audio" and "Full processing mode" in the main menu.

Step 6

Select the codec and compression options for the resulting audio data. From the menu, select the "Audio" and "Compression…" items in sequence. In the left-hand list of the "Select audio compression" dialog, select your preferred encoder. In the list on the right, highlight the item corresponding to the acceptable format. Click the "OK" button.

Step 7

Pull audio out of video. Use the menu items "File" and "Save WAV …". In the dialog that appears, enter a file name and select a directory to save it. Click "Save".

Step 8

Wait until the end of saving the sound file to disk.
