The number of letters in the answer word is determined by the number of cells from the square with the task to another of the same square or to the edge of the scandword field.

You can solve the crossword puzzle from any place - from above, from below, from the middle. The best place to start is by solving a word that is long enough to overlap with a large number of other words. This will immediately give you hint letters that will help you in solving the next few tasks.
Step 3
There are several types of tasks in scanwords. It is best to start with questions that require a definite answer. These can be tasks for spelling the missing word (for example, "the great combinator … Bender") or for the selection of the only possible definable word (for example, "the author of the story" The Captain's Daughter ").

Also in scanwords there are tasks that contain a potential set of correct answers (for example, "river in Russia") or require you to choose a synonym for a word (for example, "sadness"). To solve them, you need to count the number of cells allotted for the answer in order to exclude too long and too short options (for example, if the answer to the “sadness” task contains 5 letters, then the “kruchina” option will definitely not work). Then you need to guess any word that intersects with the data in order to open a hint letter (for example, if in the answer to the task "sadness" the second letter is opened - "p", then the answer will be the word "spleen", not "melancholy").

If there are great difficulties in solving tasks, you can turn to any auxiliary means: geographic atlases, dictionaries of synonyms, search engines. However, all these measures should be taken only if your goal is simply to solve the crossword puzzle, and not to test your erudition.
