Step 1
To create a straight line on one of the layers of a document opened in Photoshop, turn on the Line Tool by clicking on the icon in the tool palette or pressing U. Click on the area of the image from which the line should begin and, without releasing the left mouse button, stretch the segment to the desired length. If you need to get a straight horizontal line using this tool, hold down the Shift key while drawing.
Step 2
The thickness of the line created with the Line Tool can be adjusted in the panel that appears under the main menu after turning on the tool. To adjust, enter the desired size in pixels in the Weight field.

The line drawn with the Line Tool in Shape layers will be positioned on a new layer with a vector mask. In Paths mode, this tool will create a vector image, and in Fill pixels mode, you will get a raster line located on the active layer. On the left side of the Line Tool settings panel, you can switch the modes in which the tool works by clicking on the corresponding button.
Step 4
A straight line can be created with the Pen Tool. Place two anchor points using this tool by clicking on the open document. The points will be connected with a straight line. To get a straight horizontal line, hold down the Shift key before creating the second anchor point.
Step 5
Lines drawn with the Pen Tool can be stroked with a brush. To do this, select the Brush Tool and adjust the diameter of the brush in the Brush panel or the Brushes palette. The diameter of the brush will match the thickness of the line.
Step 6
In the Paths palette, right-click on the line layer and select Stroke Path. Select the Brush tool from the dialog that opens. If you need a line whose end and beginning will be thinner than the middle, check the Simulate Pressure checkbox.
Step 7
You can use the Brush Tool and Pen Tool to create straight, straight lines. If you hold down the Shift key while drawing, the line drawn by the tool will be straight. In the same way, you can make the tools for lightening, darkening, erasing and copying an image move in a straight line. The thickness of the resulting line will depend on the diameter of the brush of the selected tool.
