This funny shape-shifter is similar to a flexagon, but has a three-dimensional shape. The shape-shifter is easy to shape with simple finger movements, which causes surprise and admiration among others, as when demonstrating tricks, but at the same time there are no secrets and no skills are required. All you need is the funny shape-shifter himself.

It is necessary

  • Thick sheet material or colored cardboard;
  • thin fabric or tape;
  • adhesive for fabric and sheet material.
  • Tools: pencil, ruler, scissors.

Instructions

Step 1

We cut out rectangular and square blanks from sheet material (cardboard) in the amount of:

16 pcs. 3x3 cm in size; 16 pcs. 3x4 cm in size; 16 pcs. 3x5 cm in size. From thin fabric we cut 28 squares 3x3 cm and 4 rectangles 3x5 cm.

Step 2

Taking one blank 3x3, 3x4, 3x5 cm, we glue them with a 3x3 cm fabric. We get a triangular ring with sides 3x4x5 cm and a height of 3 cm. If cardboard is used, then you can cut out a blank 3x12 cm in size, make fold lines every 3 and 4 cm from the edge, bend along the fold line into a triangle, and glue the joint with tape. We repeat this 8 times and we get 8 single triangular rings, glued with cloth or tape in the corners on the outside of the rings.

Step 3

Using 3x5 cm fabric or scotch tape, we glue triangular single rings in pairs along a 5 cm long face. We get 4 double triangular rings. The rings should be movably held together from the outside along the longest sides of the triangles.

Step 4

Using 3x3 cm fabric or scotch tape, glue double triangular rings in pairs along a 3 cm long face. We get 2 chains of triangular rings with 4 links. The rings should be movably fastened on the 3 cm side. The 5 cm sides of all rings of each chain should be facing the same direction.

Step 5

The resulting two chains of 4 triangular rings, aligning each in the form of a triangular tube, are applied to each other with 4 cm long edges, and from above, from the 3x3 edges, using a 3x3 cm fabric or adhesive tape, we glue the two chains into a single ring along the two outer rings. We get a single chain of 8 movable triangles.

Step 6

On each face of all triangles, we glue blanks of sheet material of the appropriate size over the connective tissue. This will hide the connective tissue, give the product more rigidity to the triangular links and the strength of the whole shape-shifter.

Step 7

After the glue has dried, we take the shape-shifter with both hands and begin to bend it along the movable corners, folding and stretching in different directions without applying great effort. The shape-shifter should rotate in a funny way, changing shape in a bizarre way.
