Open the desired JPEG picture in Photoshop. If you do not own Photoshop, use Pixlr - a convenient and simple analogue of this graphics editor. Load the image, and then in the layers palette double click on the background layer (Background) to unlock it.

From the toolbar on the left side of the screen, select the Magic Wand tool and, having set the anti-aliasing and continuity parameters, click on the image background. The magic wand tool is good for selecting the background if it is in contrast to the main picture and if the drawing has not too complex outlines.

Remove the background by pressing the Delete key. You can also invert the selection, copy the main element of the picture to a new layer, and delete the Backround layer.
