Ribbon embroidery was one of the hobbies of King Louis XV. In those days, silk ribbons, along with gold embroidery and embroidery with gems and pearls, adorned the camisoles of fashionable gentlemen and elegant ladies' outfits. Nowadays, this needlework has become more accessible, but it is still capable of turning any simple dress into a festive outfit. And paintings embroidered with ribbons will add luxury and sophistication to your interior.
It is necessary
- - satin ribbons;
- - needles with a large eye;
- - fabric or canvas;
- - hoop;
- - pins;
- - forceps for pulling the needle through the fabric.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare your work area before embroidering. It should be very well lit, and the table at which you will be working should be large enough to lay out everything you need. The chair or chair should be comfortable.
Step 2
Your hands should always be clean, as the finished painting cannot be washed off. Therefore, stock up on wet wipes.
Step 3
The embroidery needle should have a wide enough eye for the ribbon to lie flat in it. In addition, the needle must be thick so that it can leave a large enough hole when piercing the tissue. In this case, the ribbons will lie flat, forming smooth stitches.
Step 4
Transfer the selected pattern to fabric or canvas, use a special copy paper or marker for this. A variety of floral motifs are best suited for ribbon embroidery, although craftswomen are able to embroider almost any plot.
Step 5
Use ribbons that are short, about 30 cm long, as long ribbons will deteriorate and the quality of the stitches will deteriorate if they are pulled through the fabric too often.
Step 6
Thread the ribbon into the needle and tie a knot on the ribbon or secure the ponytail with embroidery threads.
Step 7
Always hold the tape with your thumb while sewing and only release it when the stitch is almost complete. This method will prevent the tape from curling. Also, do not tighten the tape too much, all the stitches should go freely and smoothly.
Step 8
The elements of the picture are embroidered with the same stitches as when embroidering with threads. Use a straight stitch, forward stitch, and a stem stitch. Volumetric elements of the pattern can be embroidered using a French knot, a colonial knot or "rococo".
Step 9
After the embroidery is finished, stretch the fabric over the stretcher and insert into the frame. Now you can hang a DIY embroidered painting on the wall.
