Old leather belts are usually difficult to find applications and are thrown away. But any craftswoman can breathe a second life into obsolete straps by making a creative rug for the hallway with her own hands.
It is necessary
- - leather belts or from a substitute
- - skin scissors
- - gypsy needle
- - an awl or perforator for leather
- - strong twine or rope
Instructions
Step 1
We make all belts the same length so that the carpet is even. The buckles are cut off.
Step 2
Along the edges of each strap, using an awl or leather punch, holes must be made, stepping back from the edge of half a centimeter, and the distance between the holes should be about two centimeters.
Step 3
All belts are sewn together with a strong twine or rope using a gypsy needle. When sewing, the twine can be stretched cross to cross, across or along the belt, as you like. If metal staples are used instead of twine, then they are fixed with pliers.
Step 4
From the belts, you can create a rug that resembles parquet floors. For this, even belts are taken (so that the carpet is not wrinkled), a sketch is drawn on a dense fabric and the base is cut out. The belts prepared in advance are degreased from the inside out and glue is applied to them. The belts are pressed tightly to the base and glued.
Step 5
Small rugs can be made from multi-colored belts. An embossed pattern among the usual belts will look very impressive.
