Drawing a face in profile is an old art. Some artists achieve such perfection that they can even cut a profile out of dark paper without any sketching. But first you need to learn how to draw a person's face from a similar perspective.

It is necessary

  • - paper;
  • - pencil;
  • - a sitter, or several pictures with a face in profile.

Instructions

Step 1

Before drawing anything, analyze what geometric shape you can fit the object you need into. For the head in profile, such a figure will be a square. Draw it on a sheet. Paper in this case can be of any size, including non-standard. When drawing, do not use a ruler, try to determine all ratios by eye.

Step 2

Divide the vertical and horizontal sides of the square into 7 roughly equal pieces. Draw a grid. It will be easier to mark the proportions along it. The whole head will fit in the square, including the protruding part of the nose.

Step 3

Determine the ratio of the protruding part of the nose to the width of the entire head. Set aside a segment of the desired length along one of the horizontal lines and put a point. Draw a thin vertical line across the mark. Perform vertical markings on it.

Step 4

Mark the proportions along one of the vertical sides. You need to define the lines of the eyebrows, eyes, nose, mouth and chin. People have different faces, some have a very high forehead, others have a large nose, and still others have a too protruding chin. Therefore, the lines may be slightly above or slightly below the average. For the lips, make a mark on the line separating the first and second bottom rows. The nose should fit between the third and fifth rows of squares, the eyes should be at the level of the line between the fourth and fifth, and the eyebrows should be just above the eyes.

Step 5

Determine the angle between your forehead and the bridge of your nose. Draw a line for the forehead. Mark the line of the bridge of the nose, focusing on the vertical line. See how the bottom line of the nose coincides with the horizontal direction.

Step 6

Draw the eye. Please note that when the face is positioned in profile to the observer, the eyes do not appear oval at all. Rather, it resembles an acute-angled triangle with a slightly rounded side closer to the nose. The lines of the eyelids converge at the outer corner of the eye. The eyebrow line roughly follows the line of the eyes, but it is slightly wider.

Step 7

The line between the bottom of the nose and the lips is almost vertical, although in some people it protrudes strongly. Draw the jawline. Please note that there is always a dimple between the lower lip and the chin.

Step 8

The profile is almost ready. Sketch the hairline. Determine the position of the ear. It is located approximately in the middle of the head both vertically and horizontally. Draw it. You just have to finish drawing the neck
