Face painting is a complex art. Some artists can cut a person's profile out of black paper without any sketching. They achieve such perfection. But first you need to learn how to draw a human face from this perspective.

It is necessary

  • - pencil
  • - paper
  • - a sitter or several pictures showing a face in profile

Instructions

Step 1

Before drawing something, analyze and decide which of the geometric shapes this object can be inscribed into. For a person's head in profile, a square is suitable. Draw it on a piece of paper. Paper can be of any size, even custom. Do not use a ruler while drawing, try to determine all ratios by eye.

Step 2

Divide the horizontal and vertical sides of the square into seven equal parts. Draw a grid. It will be much easier to place all the proportions on it. The whole head will fit in the square, including the protruding part of the nose.

Step 3

Determine the ratio of the width of the head to the protruding part of the nose. Set aside a piece of the required length on one horizontal line. Put a point on this place. Draw a thin vertical line across the mark. On it, mark it vertically.

Step 4

Mark the proportions on one of the vertical sides. Determine the lines of the eyes, eyebrows, nose, chin, mouth. The facial features are different for everyone: someone has a very high forehead, someone has a large nose, and someone has a protruding chin. Therefore, the lines can be located below or above the average. Make a mark for the lips on the line that separates the second and first bottom rows. But place between the fifth and third rows of squares. The eyes should be at the level of the line between the fifth and fourth, and the eyebrows should be slightly above the eyes.

Step 5

Determine the angle between the bridge of your nose and your forehead. Draw a line for the forehead. Draw a line for the bridge of the nose using a vertical line. See how the bottom line of the nose converges with the horizontal direction.

Step 6

Draw the eye. When the face is positioned in profile, the eye does not seem oval to the observer, but resembles an acute-angled triangle with a slightly rounded side closer to the nose. In the outer corner of the eye, the lines of the eyelids converge. The eyebrow line follows approximately the line of the eye, only it is slightly wider.

Step 7

Draw the line between the lips and the bottom of the nose almost vertically. Draw the jawline. Remember the hollow, which is always between the chin and the lower lip. Sketch the hairline. Show the position of the ear approximately in the middle of the head both horizontally and vertically. Draw the neck. The profile is ready.
