Since ancient times, music has attracted people with its beauty and harmony. There are a lot of musical instruments in the world - both modern and ancient, ethnic and folklore. Today, original and unusual ethnic musical instruments are especially popular, and their special attraction lies in the fact that you can easily make some of these instruments yourself. One of such simple but effective instruments is the "rain flute". This noise instrument, when tilted, creates an atmospheric and beautiful effect, reminiscent of streams of rain or waterfall.
Instructions
Step 1
To create a rain flute, you need a dry hogweed, which is best harvested towards mid-fall. Choose stems that are thick enough with solid walls without cracks or chips. If you are making a short rain flute, one hogweed knee will suffice.
Step 2
If you want to make a long tool, you need to pierce the partitions between the hogweed's knees with something long and hard from the inside. The hogweed must be completely dry before starting work, and you must also make sure that there is no rot and mold inside the stem. If necessary, the stem can be dried at home by pulling it along its entire length with threads and ropes to avoid cracking.
Step 3
Having cleaned the stem from the inside and outside, take sharp toothpicks and begin to pierce the stem from top to bottom in a spiral, making neat uniform holes. Make four spirals one above the other along the entire length of the stem.
Step 4
Cut or flatten the ends of the toothpicks sticking out from the outside. Close one end of the rain flute tightly with a cork or a piece of Styrofoam, and fill the other end with half a glass of rice or buckwheat. After that, close the top hole and flip the stem over to hear if you are satisfied with the sound.
Step 5
Close both the upper and lower holes tightly, and for strength and beauty, wrap it with a cloth or thick hemp cord.
Step 6
Outside, cover the finished rain flute in two layers with varnish.
