If you decide to learn how to sew, the easiest way is to try to make the simplest thing with your own hands, for example, a scarf. This headpiece will not only come in handy in dozens of different situations, but will also help you create a unique fashionable look.
Sewing a scarf yourself is easy. This will require a small piece of material, tailor's chalk, a large ruler, matching threads, a sewing machine, scissors and a little imagination.
The fabric for the kerchief should be suitable for its purpose. If you want to use a scarf as a summer headdress, purchase fine natural materials for sewing it, such as cambric, madapolam or silk. They have increased hygroscopicity and air permeability, so a kerchief made of them will perfectly protect the head from exposure to sunlight.
The pattern of the material for the scarf should be bright. Fantasy ethnic ornaments, floral motifs and leopard prints are all the rage right now, but if you prefer calm colors, choose a floral print or a geometric pattern.
If you intend to use the scarf as a neckerchief, you can purchase polyester silk, chiffon, crepe de Chine, satin, wet silk, or satin. These materials wrinkle less than natural materials, so a kerchief made of them will retain its good appearance even with regular wear.
The simplest kerchief is a square. The sizes of standard headscarves sold in stores are 60 * 60 cm or 70 * 70 cm. This headscarf can be used as a scarf or light headdress. If you want to wear a scarf like a headscarf without tying it, then its dimensions should be 90 * 90 cm. Determine what kind of scarf you need and purchase the required amount of material equal to the size of the scarf plus 5 cm for processing sections.
Before cutting, the material must be decated. To do this, wash cotton or linen in hot water, and silk in cool water, and then iron. Synthetic materials do not shrink, so there is no need to decorate them.
Spread the material out on the table, flatten it gently and cut off the edge. Then draw a square of the required size on the fabric with a piece of chalk or tailor's chalk (the side of the square is equal to the size of the scarf plus 2 cm for processing the sections) and cut out the product.
The sewing process itself takes very little time, since you only need to process the sections. There are several ways to do this:
- a hemmed seam with a closed cut - suitable for cotton, synthetic and mixed fabrics (to sew a scarf, it is necessary to tuck its edges first by 0.3 cm, then by 0.7 cm, and then sew with a straight stitch in steps of 3-3.5 mm);
- processing "zigzag" - used for thin loose fabrics, for example, silk or crepe de Chine (tuck the edges of the scarf 2 times by 0.3 cm and lay a zigzag stitch along the hem with a step of 2.5-3 mm);
- hand-made option - great for linen and thin woolen fabrics: 10-15 threads are pulled out of the fabric cuts so that a small fringe is obtained, if the material is pouring, then a zigzag stitch can be laid along the edge with a step of 5 mm.
