Knitting mittens is easier than knitting gloves. The main challenge for beginner knitters is to learn how to knit a thumb wedge. Practice making men's mittens. Knitting is easier, and the ability to use thick yarn allows you to better understand the process.
Instructions
Step 1
To knit mittens, you need four knitting needles, knit in a circle, starting with the elastic. Continue further, add loops for the palm, go to the front surface. For the inner side of the palm +2 loops, for the back +4 loops. Mark the loop from which the thumb will form. The mark should be on the hinges set aside for the inside.
Step 2
If the mitten is for the left hand, mark the fourth stitch from the left on the second knitting needle. If the mitten is for the right hand, mark the fourth stitch from the right on the first knitting needle.
Step 3
Continue working and add loops to create a thumb wedge. Make additions before and after the marked loop, recruiting new ones from the broaches. Repeat the increments in every third round - these are standard increments. However, their number may vary depending on the size of the palm.
Step 4
Carry out the last three circles without adding, knit the wedge to the desired height. Leave the hinges open and pin them off. Knit further, to create a jumper over the removed loops, cast on two or three loops. Continue knitting in a circle, trying on the mitten in the palm of your hand.
Step 5
Subtract to shape. Decrease the last two loops from the inside of the palm, knit them with the crossed front. Continue to decrease on the back loops - the first two loops together. Repeat the decrease on the opposite side of the mitten.
Step 6
Continue knitting, decreasing the stitches until there are two stitches left on the needles. Pull the remaining loops with a thread, fasten on the wrong side.
Step 7
You can do the subtraction as for socks. Work the last two stitches together on each knitting needle. Continue to decrease until there are eight loops on the needles, pull them together with a thread, fasten it on the wrong side. In the first case, the shape of the mitten will turn out to be triangular, in the second - semicircular.
