Instructions

Step 1

First of all, you need to prepare a sketch for future work. Choose a drawing from a magazine, download from the Internet or draw yourself. If this is your first work experience, choose simple drawings with a minimum of small details - a landscape in the desert or at sea is best for this.

Step 2

Find threads for the job. It is optimal if threads of the same quality will be used in your tapestry both in composition and thickness. Based on the color scheme of the drawing you have defined as a sketch, select several suitable shades of all colors. If you are using old loosened threads, wash them in warm water to straighten them out.

Step 3

Now make a frame on which you will need to apply the warp threads. The frame is a rectangle made of planks. Its size should be 2-3 cm larger on each side than the sketch. The frame can be used many times, so make it solid. On the side of the top and bottom of the frame, drive nails 2-3 mm apart. It is more convenient if the nails are not filled in one line, but alternately - higher and lower in a checkerboard pattern. On the bottom left nail, attach the warp thread and run it up and down, tracing each nail. Secure on the last nail.

Step 4

Using a crochet hook from the warp thread, lay air loops (pigtail) at the bottom of the future tapestry, gripping the stretched threads. Now, from the wire, create a kind of loop that will be threaded between the warp threads, leading the colored thread. Make several rows of the same color, alternately inserting the thread under the even and odd warp threads, take the thread back on the sides.

Step 5

After 8-10 single-color rows, start creating the pattern. To do this, pin the sketch of the tapestry to the back of the frame with pins. And according to the pattern, change the shades of the threads. Take the excess ends to the wrong side. Pull each next row to the previous one with a fork. When the drawing is finally ready, make several closing monophonic rows in the same way as the first. Secure the ends of the threads to the wrong side with a thread and a needle.

Step 6

Carefully cut the warp threads off the frame, leaving a few centimeters at the top and bottom. Insert the resulting tapestry into the frame yourself or give it to a framing workshop for decoration.
