Tapestry is a hand-woven dense fabric with patterns. Such fabric can be used to make pictures, upholstery for furniture, tablecloths, rugs and even bags. Since the Middle Ages, the technology of making tapestries has not changed. Still, the only thing needed for a tapestry is a loom, threads, as well as the patience and imagination of the master.

Instructions
Step 1
Make a simple wooden frame to use as a loom. The dimensions must correspond to the future work. Calculate the length and width of your product. Multiply the width by 3 times and the length by 2, and you get the dimensions of the frame. So, if the size of the tapestry is 200 by 250 cm, then the frame will be respectively 600 by 500 cm.
Step 2
Prepare the base. The basis in tapestry is a vertically stretched thread. For her, linen yarn is best suited, because linen is durable and does not stretch. The number of thread rows, or the density of the warp, depends on how thick you will have the transverse threads. They are also called ducks. The thinner the weft, the higher the density of the warp. With an average thickness of the transverse thread, there are about 3 warp threads per 1 cm.
Step 3
Wrap the warp threads around the longer side of the frame, like a spool. The distance from the first to the last thread of the warp will be the same as the future tapestry canvas. Leave approximately 2-4mm intervals between the threads. Do not pull the base too tight. The fingers should pass freely between the threads.
Step 4
Make some money before you start weaving the pattern on the tapestry. This is the working part of the tapestry, which is subsequently sewn on the wrong side or folded into the end of the stretcher. Tie a linen thread with a simple knot to the edge of the warp. Choosing the even-numbered warp threads with one hand, pass the earning thread behind them with the other hand, draw it to the edge of the tapestry and wrap the last thread from the other edge. Now unfold the thread and guide it in the opposite direction, choosing the odd warp threads this time. After finishing the row, punch through the weft with a fork. This will increase the density of the product. Repeat the weaving several times and secure the earnings with a knot.
Step 5
Take some woolen threads and start weaving the pattern. The technique is exactly the same as the one you just applied to make money. If you are working with threads of several colors, then the weft can be inserted from anywhere in the tapestry. It needs to be tied with a simple knot to the warp threads in the right place.
Step 6
Secure all horizontal threads with knots at the end of the work. Weave the earnings in the same way as you did at the beginning of the tapestry. Cut the warp threads and knot the ends. You can decorate the edges of the tapestry with braids, tassels, or fringes.
