Instructions

Step 1

Select a jacket model and take all measurements: bust, waist, sleeve, shoulder, front and back length. Calculate the amount of fabric you need for the jacket, don't forget the lining fabric. When choosing a fabric, follow the advice of professionals.

Step 2

You can also ask the sellers in the store to advise you on the quality of the fabric you like. Prepare (design) the selected fabric. Do not forget about the accessories: buttons or rivets and shoulder pads. Choose hard shoulder pads, adjust the thickness to suit the jacket model and the slope of your shoulders.

Step 3

Make paper patterns. Open the fabric: lay it face up on the table, pin the patterns to it with pins, circle the contours with chalk. Do not forget about 1-2 cm seam allowances. Mark the grooves on the fabric. Cut the lining in the same way. Sweep away any cut out parts of the jacket, sweep over the shoulder pads, and try on the jacket. Check that all parts are correctly cut. Fit the jacket to your figure, if necessary, pin the excess fabric with pins.

Step 4

Sew the edges of the fabric on the sewing machine, grind off the darts and sew all the cut parts of the jacket. Iron all seams and try on the jacket again. If the fabric is rippled, narrow or widen the grooves. Sew on shoulder pads and buttons. If the model has pockets, sew them on.

Step 5

Sweep away all the details of the lining and try on it. Make sure the lining fits well and then sew. Baste the lining to the jacket. If the fabric does not fit well during fitting, narrow the lining slightly along the darts. Sew the lining to the jacket and try again. Make sure the jacket is not pulling anywhere and iron the garment.
