Jew's harp, komus, khomus, kobyz and kubyz … - whatever you call it, but all this is a reed instrument that requires a careful attitude towards itself. Therefore, it would be nice for him to make a case for carrying and storage.
It is necessary
- Wooden block
- Pencil
- Knife
- Semicircular, straight chisels (by design)
- Drill
- Sandpaper
- Stain or paint
- Wax or varnish
- Leather lace
Instructions
Step 1
Take a wooden block of such a size that the width, length and height exceed the dimensions of your jew's harp by at least 1 cm in all directions.
Step 2
Draw a pencil sketch of the future owl on the block. Use your imagination and any photos you like as a reference. You can make an owl in the style of a mask or totem, or cut it out to look like a real one. You are also free to cut the bird flying or sitting.
For example, my owl is sitting on a tree stump. I used the head of an owl to deepen the tongue of the jew's harp under the tail, and a stump for its ring.
Step 3
After sketching the owl on three sides of the block, on the last side opposite the front, trace the outline of your tool. Mark the groove for the ponytail.
Step 4
Use a knife to shape the bar as you intended. For the eyes and the areas around them, use semi-circular chisels if desired. Do not be afraid if the original drawing in the process of carving suddenly ceases to be relevant. Sometimes the tree itself suggests unexpected options and leads the hand of the creator along with it.
Treat the groove for the jew's harp in the same way. Use a suitable sized drill to make a small hole for its tail.
Step 5
After completing the carvings, sandpaper the piece where appropriate. Then treat the wooden case-owl with stain or paints, apply a protective layer in the form of varnish or wax. Pass the lace and use with pleasure.
