The ancient craft of the inhabitants of the small village of Khokhloma, which is near Nizhny Novgorod, has attracted the attention of not only our compatriots, but also tourists from different countries for many years. We can say that the Khokhloma painting has become a real symbol of Russia. It is impossible to confuse it with anything, but to repeat it is rather difficult. But it's worth a try.

Step 1
The classic process of painting under Khokhloma is very complicated, takes place in several stages, and it will be difficult to get all the materials for it. Therefore, the instructions provide a simplified version. Prepare the wooden surface for painting. First, degrease it with alcohol using a cotton swab. Cover the surface with the base color (gold). For these purposes, it is best to use acrylic paints - they stick well to the tree, and besides, they are not afraid of water. Let the paint dry - during this time you will have time to draw a sketch of the future painting.
Step 2
Before drawing patterns on the wood, complete the sketch on paper. In Khokhloma painting, only three colors are used - gold, black, red. Green is used occasionally. The main elements of the painting are plant motifs. First, work out these basic elements on paper. Any drawing will consist of sedges, blades of grass, curls, antennae, droplets and bushes. Their connection and all kinds of variations will make up the pattern. Before drawing your own sketch, look through the many options for murals and grasp the principle of their construction. Then sketch out the location of certain elements with a pencil and start drawing with paint and a brush.
Step 3
When the paint on the workpiece is dry (it will take at least two days), transfer your sketch to it. The paint, of course, can be erased during work, but ugly streaks can remain, so try to work accurately and accurately. When the work is finished, dry the product and, if necessary, cover with varnish.
