Natural light from a window is the most faithful assistant for a novice photographer. It is not at all necessary to install expensive lighting equipment; it can be successfully replaced by a regular window, with which you can even create some special effects. You just need to know how to do it.

Step 1
Before picking up your camera, you need to understand that “photo by the window” and “photo in the background of the window” are two completely different things.
Step 2
The first example is one of the simplest - just stand by the window and position the model so that it is well lit by the light entering the room. If the model sits in frontal view to the window, her face will be illuminated evenly and without unnecessary shadows. This method is suitable for photographing at home with a passport and other documents.
Step 3
By unfolding the model in half, you will get a wonderful cut-off pattern, which will immediately give the face volume and a light mysterious touch. The brighter the day and the darker the room, the more pronounced the pattern you can capture.
Step 4
But sometimes the window is an integral part of the composition. Having decided on such a step, think over everything to the smallest detail. Just by placing a person by the window and clicking the camera shutter, you will most likely get a black outline of the silhouette against a background embossed in white. Backlit shooting is not easy. Try bouncing some of the light onto the model using a homemade screen that can be made from a large white sheet or a piece of Whatman paper. If you also apply spot metering, the photo will certainly succeed.
Step 5
Very interesting photos by the window can be taken in the evening, when it is just getting dark outside. Turn on your normal room lighting; incandescent bulbs can achieve the greatest effect. Create a composition involving a window. In the camera, find the white balance settings, choose among them "artificial lighting" or "incandescent lamps", and then you can start taking pictures.
Step 6
After looking at the resulting photos, you can not help but be impressed. The window that got into the frame will glow with a gentle blue, the depth of which will depend on the degree of the coming darkness. Even a difference of 5-10 minutes will be clearly visible in the picture, from which, if you wish, you can make a real fabulous postcard with the twilight effect.
