Not a single candle is complete without a candlestick. They complement each other, decorating the interior. Decorated with decoupage technique, the candlestick will fill the atmosphere of the house with tranquility and comfort. The meaning of this decoration is to glue a cut-out picture on the glass surface that imitates painting.

It is necessary

  • - glass base of the candlestick;
  • - napkin;
  • - alcohol;
  • - scissors;
  • - glue for decoupage;
  • - flat synthetic brush;
  • - primer for glass surfaces;
  • - facet varnish;
  • - palette knife.

Instructions

Step 1

To decorate the candlestick, it is very important to prepare the glass base well. Degrease the surface with alcohol or nail polish remover.

Step 2

Use a two-layer or three-layer napkin with a pattern of any theme. Use a colorful top coat for decoupage.

Step 3

Use scissors to cut the desired motif to the size of the candlestick. Peel off the top patterned layer.

Step 4

If you decide to use an antique motif, then cut off the drawing with your hands along its borders. The edges will look vintage.

Step 5

Take the special decoupage glue available from art stores. It will allow you to get a guaranteed result - it will not turn yellow and keep the transparency of the motive. You can use good consistency PVA glue.

Step 6

Take a candlestick and place your drawing on the place where it will be located. Avoid touching the glass surface with your fingers.

Step 7

Apply glue to the decor with a flat synthetic brush. Movements should be from the center to the edges so that there are no folds and bubbles.

Step 8

If a wrinkle has formed, then gently lift the edge of the motif and, applying again, smooth it with a brush. Proceed with caution, as under the glue the napkin becomes very fragile and tears easily.

Step 9

After the glue is dry, apply a thin layer of glass primer to the candlestick. Smear it well, leaving no smudges. It dries quickly, but you can speed up the process with a hair dryer. It's okay if the soil gets into the drawing.

Step 10

Decorate the candlestick with clear bevelling varnish to create the effect of frozen glass. Apply it in a thick layer of 2 mm using a palette knife (special spatula for thick paints). Try not to get varnish on decoupage.

Step 11

After drying, cracks will appear on the surface (this is a feature of this varnish), which can be tinted with paints, creating an antique effect. A ready-made candlestick with a candle is a romantic and touching souvenir that can be presented to friends.
